Helping the Troubled Teen in Crisis

Teens who have troubling issues often work hard to hide these issues from their parents and teachers. They don't want anyone to know how they really feel or to be seen as weak or inferior. Troubled teens want to be seen as strong and able to take care of themselves. They also are at a point in their lives when they don't want their parents to interfere with their lives anymore. But it is important for parents to watch out for signs that their troubled teen is in crisis.

Troubled teens in crisis often show many warning signs. They do their best to hide how they are feeling from their parents, but many of the warning signs show through despite their efforts. Being able to recognize these signs is an important part of the job of parenting. Getting help for your teen in crisis will be easier if you can catch the warning signs early.

Trouble teens in crisis will often withdraw from the world in an attempt to hide what is going on. The troubled teen will lock him or herself into their bedroom or will spend as much of their time away from home as possible. These teens may also do things to themselves to hurt themselves such as cutting or other self mutilation. Troubled teens in crisis will do this on their body in a place that no one is likely to notice. A parent can watch for these things by looking for blood on clothing.

Recognizing the warning signs of troubled teens in crisis can help the parent intervene before a bigger problem can develop. Often, teens in crisis will decide to run away. They may never return or worse yet, something bad may happen that prevents them from ever returning. Another worst case scenario when signs are ignored or missed is that the teen may commit suicide causing years of guilt for the parents. Getting the help that your troubled teen needs is so important not only for their immediate safety, but also for the good of the rest of their life.

Teens in crisis are not aware that they are in need of help and most of the time; they will not pursue help on their own. They will continue to think that this is what life is supposed to be like and just continue to live in their misery. It is the parent's job to make sure this doesn't happen.
